On this island there lived a turtle, George. One day, the Palace caught on fire and Hojo was sent to a small island. The Imperial Physician tried everything to put out Hojo’s fire. However, every time Hojo laughed, out came flames. He makes himself very useful by cooking food, heating the palace, etc. The Emperor names him Hojo and he becomes the Imperial Pet. (the book is by Kenneth Mahood) Story takes place in Japan.Īs the Emperor was about to eat his morning egg, out jumped a little smiling dragon. IMPORTANT: Make sure to use a mild salsa! Make sure to provide plenty of water, milk and/or juice! Provide a mild salsa and chips to the children.Įncourage them to breathe “dragon fire” if the salsa feels warm in their mouth. Tape several episodes, and show them to the children, discuss the problems solved in each episode. “Dragon Tales” on PBS is a very good show for the younger set. Provide several pictures of dragons for inspiration and have children draw their own dragons. Older children might enjoy the movie “Dragonheart.” A really fun project that could get all the children involved. You could make a Chinese dragon in your childcare by using a paper mache head and a decorated sheet. Chinese dragons are symbols of luck, prosperity and protection. This is always a great favorite of children. Read the story Puff the Magic Dragon, watch the video, sing the song. Have the children make a dragon puppet from a paper bag. Read the story of The Paper Bag Princess. You can even write the stories down, and collect them all into one big storybook. Have them color it, and make up a short story about the adventures of their dragon. Provide each child with a dragon outline. Let them eat some and have them glue some on a dragon outline.
